 Emma has always been a person who centers on having no qualms about taking a stand and getting dirty while having fun. Her whole life is consumed by a set of classes so she spent most of the time in uni feeling like a spectator rather than a participant. Her daily activities included attending lectures, sitting quietly in her room with a book, and returning to her room.

When she was strolling around university one afternoon, one place that caught her attention was, “The Talkative Bean.” The place was warm and the aroma of the coffee which she relished was inviting. Therefore, she was introduced to the owner, Rachel, who, with comfort and warmth in her smile, greeted her. ( “Finding Her Voice” )

Since Emma was all quiet, Rachel would notice and any time she would tell her to attend the coffee house weekly discussion groups. There was some initial pushback, but being around Rachel didn’t frighten her as much.

The first discussion group on mental health issues that Emma went to was attended by people neither of them knew. Strangers were able to voice their views and disclose how they could wager their stigma too. At that moment in time, Emma embarked on a journey intestinally that did not include her being by herself.   ( “A Safe Space for Connection” )

In the weeks that followed, Emma visited the café on multiple occasions and gradually started discussing social issues and self and relationships focusing on social justice.
